I am writing here an example a very sad poem by Mirza Asudullah Baig Ghalib, I consider this as one of his Best. Some people call it a Ghazal but I prefer to call it a Poem anyway. Before I start with it, I want to narrate one incident of his life which will inform you of "what a great presence of mind he possessed". I think it necessary because you are about to read a really sad Poem.

Mirza Sahib very sad, shabbily dressed alone in his house, was pacing around in the courtyard. A well dressed well educated gentleman who liked his Poems/Ghazals came to visit him. As he spotted Ghalib Sahib, he thought he was merely a servant. He asked him to announce him as "Mr. So & So" B.A. pass as was the custom those days. So Mirza Sahib went inside and announced as he was instructed. After a short while he himself in a changed high pitched voice called " Kalu Mian Unse Kaho Ke Bahut Khoob Agar Woh B.A. Pass Hai To theek Hai, Hum Be.Be. Pass Hain" Meharbaani Karke Aap Phir Kabhi Tashreef Laayen. After saying this he came out and resumed his pacing the courtyard.
So here is the Poem: SAFAR UDAASI

Thakaa Gayaa Hai Maslsal Safar Udaasi Kaa,
Aur Abb Bhi Hai Mere Shaane Pe Sar Udaasi Kaa.

Woh Kaun Kimiyah Gar Thaa Ke Jo Bakher Gayaa,
Tere Gulaab Se Chehre Pe Zar Udaasi Kaa.

Mere Wajood Ke Khalwat Kadeh Mein Koi To Thaa,
Jo Rakh Gayaa Hai Diyaa Taak Par Udaasi Kaa.

Main Tujh Se Kehse Kahon Yaar Meharbaan Mere,
Ke Tu Ilaaj Nahin Meri Har Udaasi Kaa.

But the story/incidence also attracted me.
Just see.

Surely presence of mind..but a question ..how exactly people are going to take it? it it attitude/ego/etc. ..whatever you name it..

but i see it differently and salute Ghalib saheb for being a simple person in real terms.

Ladies & Gentlemen the entire praise should go to Ghalib Sahib, there was absolutely no controversy about the incident as everyone then knew how humble Mirza Sahib was; Some people did consider him proud though on a diffent issue. He repeatedly refused to appear in court to receive Shahansha's facilitations.
