Can anyone help me in buying a DIGITAL CAMERA

Yaar.. really sorry . i had not gone through this post earlier..

I am actually too looking to buy a new digicam.. and that is too 2 mega pixel or more..

What you have to look in a good camera are basically few things..

1. DO it has rechargable batteries ? (so that lower running cost)

2. Do it has extension slot for SD cards or memory stics etc or not . ( so that u can get more pic easily.

3. Most of good camera now comes with sound recording also.. so check out for that also

4. See if it has good LCD also.. Now KODAK is also OLED screen which relatively new technlogy with better queality also cheap to integrate in camera.

5. See if it has CMOS or CCD sensor. CMOS sensors cameras are cheaper than CCD . CMOS is good for still picture but if you want your camera to work smoothly and give high quality professional output when making  movie using it while it is connected to PC then go for CCD.. Definately CCD camera are better than CMOS

6. Also look for if they provide optical zoom.. while digital zoom is every one but the thing which should be look out is optical zoom.. i would recommend a camera min. 3x optical  zoom and 4x digital zoom.. Total 12x zoom.

I would prefer

a. CX7220 from KODAK .. 2x optical zoom prciing around 6K
 
b. CANON IXUS DIGITAL CAMERA  @x optical and 4x digital.. cost around 10k

i hav workd on to nikon wth 6 megapix cam and 3 x digi zoom

i m confused weather to for 3x opti zoom or 10x coz the latter one is quite bigger in size

 i m using a Digi Cam from last 5 years, when 2 MP was the highest available Pixel Size, and to think of a 5 MP cam was liek a dream the costs were more than 40K. My 2 MP costed 10K to me that time.

To the starters and new users i would suggest to go for Sony Cyber Shot 5 MP its available from 10K. easy to use and a sleek n small piece. comes with rechargeable battery n 16 MB FLash memory (Sony uses Flash memory).

The other Choice is Canon Pixma or Kodak.

As Ricky have suggested the points to look for normally all the cams are providing all those things.
Still one more thing apart form Mega Pixel check the highest Picture Size avaialbe. least 1600X1200 should be there.

And these are nto just still cams u can record Video and can use it as Webcam too.

Dont go for 2 or 3 Mp cams as these cams r availabe in ur latets Sony Erricson / Nokia / Motorola GSM Phones.
