Nah !!! we crystallize a protein/ enzyme... study its 3D structure binding site / active crystallogaphically
and then design a ligand...and make a complex and crystallize.....

About the binding site.........what are the constituting residues ..... the architecture / shape of binding site...on that basis we disgn ligand....

Ok.... these proteins or enzymes that we study are involved in body in various important functions....in diseased states they cause damage to the body n need to be inhibited...so these ligands can be used as drugs against them...of course ligand >>>>drug is a long journey...........

both ..... non-enzymatic proteins also.... and enzymes...also our basic target is Phospholipase A2 that is involved in inflammation n rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions...till now no drug is there in the market against this enzyme...

these drugs are specifically against other enzymes wjich are involved in the same pathway...but at later steps...PLA2 initiates the pathway........rate limiting step.....so it will be interesting to have a drug specifically against this enzyme....
