i found the thread of poet i loves more from anyone else.i want to share some personal things in the life of batalwi i didnt know its true or not but i have been told like that:
1.he was working as a patwari in punjab government and later he became bank employee.
2.he loved the girl of other community,but can not marry her because of religious ristrictions.
3.he has given the new meaning to "KISSA PURAN BHAGAT" in his book "LOONA"a must read to every women on earth.
as i have myself read this book i will share and also translate some excrepts of it for veiwers in my next visit.its nice to see the photograph and works of bataalwi in this thread and he will live in the hearts of every punjabi forever.

In my knowledge the first love,girl named MAINA(the girl which u talking),had died b4 SHIV kumar approach to her,,When SHIV heard that,he pen down a poem named "MAiNA"

you r right every women must read 'loona',,here is a brief description ,

IN early times,,there was king named Salwan,he married a very young girl named Loona. Due to some reasons The King has Put PURAN(son from his first wife behind bars,,for 14 yrs).WHen Puran was freed from bars ,,after 14 yrs,,then he went to meet his STEP MOTHER Loona,,Coz of same name,,loona fell in love at first sight with her Step Son,,but PURAN treat as her mother,,,Loona in anger,,compliant KING SALWAN that his son has misbehavd with her,so king Salwan again punish Puran,,, Puran didnot complaint accept the punishment as he didnt want to bring bad name to her step mother,,,,(and the story continue)

Many writers had written against Loona,,but shiv kumar ji was the first ,who stand for loona.Shiv aware the world that its not Loona fault as she is married to king that was aged to his father,she never recieved that love which everybody needs

In Loonan, Shiv presents a remarkably incisive and insightful appreciation of women’s sufferings in a patriarchy and exposes its moral values as the tools that force women to sacrifice their individuality to fit in various roles assigned to them. Reading the deliberate politics of the monarchical discourse in the legend, Shiv presents it from women’s point of view. More importantly, Shiv rejects the glorification of patriarchal assignment of women’s role and instead forcefully brings out the individuality of Loonan. ‘Shiv Kumar … views her sexual subjugation and deprivation as a basic injustice to her and cause of her suffering. He vindicates the veracity of her Being by asserting her right to choose and by condemning her deprivation in marriage - through her own voice. In Luna body is not merely a site of sexual desire but her humanity asserted through valuing and articulating the needs of her body and condemning their deprivation in marriage. The play is a strong assertion of woman’s sexuality which has been ignored, abused, repressed or mythologized (as passive) in patriarchy.’

actually i was taught in my class that after death of maina he loved the daughter of gurbakhsh singh pritlari and father of the girl didnt agreed to the marriege.but thanx for ur brief discription of the story written as a epic.before posting the excrepts i want to share the words of shiv kumar written on the preface of LUNA.

in this conversation salwaan tells his friend verman rationally that religion is only made for the people not for the emperors and emperors only use the religion according to their benifit.as he agreed that actually they are the real shudras who use the religion for their benifit.otherwise it is not possible that a person get the rewards of last birth.i will post some other excrepts of same book on my next visit in hindi.
