About Dushyant Kumar - Modern Hindi - Urdu Poet

Dushyant Kumar (September 1, 1933 – December 31, 1975) was a poet of modern Hindi-Urdu literature. In India, he is generally recognized as one of the foremost Hindi-Urdu poet during the twentieth century. He was also a Dramatist, Litterateur and Gazal writer.

A postal stamp was released at Bhopal in the memory of Hindi poet Dushyant Kumar.  He was a person who made `Hindi Ghazal` a very popular among new generations . Indian Postal Department has issued the stamp. It was released by the Governor, Rameshwar Thakur on 27th September 2009. Mr. Thakur said that Dushyant`s Ghazals have become the voice of common man.

Though he died at the age of 42, in his short life, he already achieved a prominent place in Urdu-Hindi Poetry. He is considered one of the best poet of Hindi-Urdu in 20th century. His words directly touches the heart of common man and so you can find a fan of Kumar every where.

Dushyant Kumar was born at Navada Village of Bijnor District in Uttar Pradesh. He did M.A. with Hindi from Allahabad.


His literary career started at Allahabad. He wrote many dramas, poems, Gazals, short stories. He actively participated in Seminars at Parimal Academy of Literature. He also worked with Naye Patte, an important Indian Newsletter of that time, Akashwani and Rajbhasha Section in Madhya Pradesh. His poetry touches directly to heart. Many new poets are inspired of him like dr. Kumar vishwas, Pushpendra Naagar.
