a boy's letter to his dad

i've thaught of u a lot,dear dad
since u have gone away
i think of u and miss u
each hour of the day

for u were such a pal to me
and loved me,oh so true
not only that but u were
just as good as mother,too

we didnt think we'd lose u
u were so big and strong
but when that awful sickness came
you didnt linger long

they say u're never coming back
it makes me feel so blue
i thaught i'd sit right down
and write these lines to u

i hate to tell u all that now
for it may make u sad
for things re so much different
since i lost my precious dad

but i said i'd write and tell u
so i guess i'd batter start
and hope u'll forgive me
even though it breaks ur heart

u know the nice big house we had
my mother u and me
well we dont live there anymore
for we have moved u see

the landlord,he was awful,
and he wouldn't let us stay
for when the rent day came around
my mother could not pay

i heard her tell him how she missed
your paycheque every week
and she was sad and cried so hard
that she could hardly speak

she went to work the other day
but i cant tell u where
because she said you'd feel so bad
if u knew she was there

she doesn't earn much money
and the work is hard to do
but we will have to do our best
without the help from u

i wish that i could help her
but i'm so small you see
i wonder why god took my dad
instead of taking me

i guess i wont go far in school
as u wanted me to do
for mother says it costs so much
that she cant see me through

our neighbours say its all,ur fault
for u didnt buy the plan
that u were urged so hard to take
by the life insurence man

i'll bet if u could just come back
and see us for a day
you d buy some life insurence
and u d buy it right away

i know u meant to buy it
for i heard u tell the man
that u"would think it over"
and some day take the plan

i guess i've told u all
that i had better tell
and hope that u'll forgive me
if it doesn't sound so well

just one more thing i'll tell
when i get to be a man
i intend to do some business
with life insurence man(nm)
