1st January is celebrated by the followers of Ramakrishna Paramhansa
as Kalpataru Day, that is the day on which Thakur, as he is known
to his devotees, fulfilled wishes of his devotees. On one such day,
some years ago, a monk went to a great said to offer his obeisance.
The saint asked him what was the occasion for the obeisance. He was
told that the day is Kalpataru Day.

The reaction of the saint was an eye-opener. He said, "Do you think
Thakur is Kalpararu for only One Day? He is eternally Kalpataru!!
He is eternally Kalpataru..!!"

When I heard this story, i was shaken to the core because it revealed
to me how we think about God and his ways. Isn't He is always there
to listen to us? To guide us through our Lives? To grant whatever we
need (Not want)? Still we limit Him by our finite ways. For Example,
we think if we pray to God by going to his temple then only He will
listen to our prayers. We also feel that our observing fast, God
will grant a boon to us. Isn't He omnipotent, Omnipresent? Then why
impose this limitation on the unlimited one?

The scriptures say that if you pray to God from the bootom of your
heart He listens to you. They why observe a restriction for one day,
One place or one forum>? Agreed, that we cannot perceive a formless
God. We need a form understandable to our limited human intelligence.
But even in this limitation we can seek the Unlimitted.

Swami Vivekananda had said that one thought, one energy pervades the
world. We find the veracity of this principle many a time when we
find that same thought occurs to two persons at the same time. Or
one thinks of a phenomenon and it happens exactly like how he
had imagined it.

My grandmother used to say never speak ill in house. Whatever we wish
the God says yes to it. Thus we reap what we sow. Still we blame
our ill luck for anything bad happening to us.

Our elders forbid us from cursing anyone. Since they say that it
rebounds and comes back to the original person. That is why it is
preached to always say good and think good. You become whatever you
are by your thoughts and your action.

There is a interesting story about how a prayer is answered.

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of
the men on it were able to swim to a small desert like island.
The two survivours, now knowing what else to do, agreed that they
had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out
whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory
between them and stay on opposite side of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the
first man saw a fruit bearing tree on his side of the land, and he
was able to eat its fruit.

The other man's parcel of land remained barren. After a week, the
first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next
day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman
who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the Island,
there was nothing. Soon the first man prayed for a House, cloths,
more food. the next day, like magic, all of these were given to him.
However, the second man still had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife
could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at
his side of the island. The first man boarded the ship with his
wife and decided to leave the scond man on the island. He considered
the other man unworthy to receive God's blessings, since none of
his prayers had been answered. As the ship was about to leave, the
first man heard a voice from Heaven booming... "Why are you
leaving your companion on the Island?"

"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed
for them", the first man answered."His prayers were all unanswered
and so he does not deserve anything"..

"You are mistaken..!!" the voice rebuked him.

"He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you
would not have received any of my blessings."

"Tell me", the first man asked the voice, "What did he pray for
that I should owe him anything?"

"He Prayed That All Your Prayers Be Answered".. !!
