A lighting from the AC II compartment onto the platform, the delicate purse she was holding in her left hand fell down as she busied herself pulling out her new suitcase, she at once bent to pick up the purse, but as her fingers were about to touch the delicate strap, a set of long and fair fingers of a male hand picked it up. She looked up, her eyes showing both apprehension and surprise, and was taken aback to see a tall young man with a broad smile looking at her face very intently. "Thank You", she said, almost snatching away her purse, in an embrrassed manner.
As she was about to run away from his gaze, almost blocking her way he said in a manly voice, "I have been travelling with you in the same compartment all the way from Mumbai, but you did not look up even once, so engrossed were you reading that book".
'Oh', she said, and was about to walk away. I am Jagat, he smiled introducing himself, "I too went for the same interview and saw you there busy arranging your papers. I watched every movement of yours but you never noticed me," he told her in a complaining tone.
"Oh"!, she uttered expressing irritation and was about to rush off. "I'll carry your suitcase as I have none". He almost snatched her suitcase and started walking along with her. As they came out of the Railway Station, she looked at him straight in his eyes expressing anger and said 'My bag Please!' and tried to santch her suitcase but tightening his grip he said, "You haven't told me your name yet. We both have attended the same interview and have travelled together, so, why not we part as friends?"
Completely puzzled she looked up and saw his eyes smile with a twinkle. 'Mrunalini", she shaid in a tone, quite unfamiliar to herself. This is how they met for the first time. Howsoever, she tried to forget this funny incident, she could not forget that tall, handsome, youngman, his smiling eyes kept on haunting her all the time.
Her parents showered upon her a hundred questions but her answers were too brief and curt for their comprehension. "What's wrong with her?' said her father quite puzzled. "She was well prepared for the interview. She was sure to do well there", he wondered. "She's not behaving normally nor is she eating properly. Something has happened that has brought about all this change in her. What could it be!' said her mother grumblingly.
Mrunalini was their only child and it was but natural that she was the focus of their interest. After two days Mrunalini's mother said, "Mrunal! Will you go to the vegetable market? There are not vegetables left in the fridge?'. To her surprise Mrunal readily agreed and within the next fifteen minutes Mrunal was in the market.
"What's the rate of the cauliflower?" she asked the 'Sabjiwala. Rs 15/-, said a voice that sounded familiar to her. She looked up and was amazwed to see Jagat standing beside her with the same smiling face. "Oh it's you? How very surprising! She said this time with a sweet smile. Thus they kept meeting at the most unexpected places most unexpectedly. The smiled at each other and soon enought they started meeting more frequently at cofee houses, restaurants, gardens... etc..
One evening, when the sun was about to set, Jagat held Mrunal's hand tenderly and uttered the age old three words. "I Love You", he said with a deep emotion. She threw herself in his arms and expressed her emotions by embracing him tightly. The inevitable happened thus followed by hundreds of rendezvous, hugging and kissing. All the sweet nothings were wishpered within a span of one month. Mrunal's father who was a retired Army Officer kept following his daughter and took the Lovers by surprise one evening in the remotest corner of a garden.
The lovered were scare but the Ex-Army Officer allayed all their fears by smiling and expressing joy. Jagat's father was a Medical practitioner too was happy and readily gave his consent to their marriage. Their nuptial coincided with the appointment letters both received.
The two MBAs were appointed as Executives in the same 'House'. The newly-wed couple began their new life together without any hassles. The Honeymoon over, they joined the new office with new enthusiasm. Time was passing too fast to record anything.
two years passed and the new began to appear old. All the loving words and sweet nothings became stale. Life became monotonous. "How did our parents live together happily for so many years?".... they began wondering. Life was so boring..!! Thoughts of separation began to peep in their minds.
One day when both were returning from the office, Mrunal said, se felt sick. Jagat felt worried and took her to the nearest nursing home. Jagat was all anxiety while the doctor was examining his wife. The doctor came out expressionless. "What's the matter doctor?" asked Jagat all too worried.
The doctor smiled suddenly and said, "Congratulations..!!, Your wife is Pregnant.!!" Jagat jumped with joy.Mrunal came out with a radiant smile. The became electrified as it were.
Life became so interesting. They hugged each other. Plans for the new arrival started keeping them together happily.....
