A young but earnest Zen student approached his teacher, and asked the Zen Master:

"If I work very hard and diligent how long will it take for me to find Zen."

The Master thought about this, then replied, "Ten years."

The student then said, "But what if I work very, very hard and really apply myself to learn fast -- How long then ?"

Replied the Master, "Well, twenty years."

"But, if I really, really work at it. How long then ?" asked the student.

"Thirty years," replied the Master.

"But, I do not understand," said the disappointed student. "At each time that I say I will work harder, you say it will take me longer. Why do you say that ?"

Replied the Master," When you have one eye on the goal, you only have one eye on the path."

No, not like that, Read the last line, carefully. “When you have one eye on the goal, you only have one eye on the path”. Means, where there is a firm determination, there is a goal for you. Even, if there is only one way to achieve the success, very often we are our own worst enemy as we foolishly change our decisions and paths and it leads to failure or delays

Moral is : Be firm on your decision and determination, success will be always there for you!! :thumb:

No! It means what I said. I said indirectly that if you keep one eye on the goal then you can't have both eyes on the road, and so your struggle to reach success will be delayed as long as you keep your focus on the goal. But if you just keep striving without a care for the reward or achieving the goal then you'll be there sooner. You're the one who didn't get the jist of what the Zen master said.
