Hum bech rahay hen geet sabhi
Haan bolo! kon khareeday ga?
In geeton, nazmon, ghazlon say
Jo chaaho gay; vb day ga

Ye aisay waisay geet nahi
Hum khoon say in ko likhtay hen
Ye in naghmon ki qismat hay
Bazaar men aakhir biktay hen

Wo, jis ki khaatir likhay thay
Kuch mole na day tu kya kartay?
Hum muft bhe us ko detay hen
Gar muft na lay tu kya kartay?

So, aaj yahan is konay men
Hum sale laga kar bethay hen
Jo hum ne likha aaj talak
Har geet saja kar bethay hen

Is geet ne dekho chaahat ka
Andaaz niraalaa paaya hay
Har lafz k aansoo tapkay hen
Jyoon gham ka badal chhaya hay

Wo geet bhe ik aavaaraa ki
Naa-kaam kahaani kehta hay
Ik baar usay jo parhta hay
Tu yaad kai din rehtaa hay

Sub geet tumhen hum day den gay
Haan bolo! larki! Lay lo gi?
Kuchh aur zara hum jee len gay
Kuchh saal agar tum day do gi

Ye sharmaanay ki baat nahi
Inkaar bhe karna mushkil hay?
Hum aaj talak ye samjhay thay
Iqraar he karna mushkil hay

Koi aisa hay? Mehfil men jo
Pal-do-pal he boli day ga?
Hum bech rahay hen geet sabhi
Haan bolo! kon khareeday ga?
