RULES FOR GHAZAL (For Members.)

1. Radeef = the rhyme in the Couplet (the last word)
darad minnat-kash-e davaa nah hua
maiN nah achha hua, bura nah hua
The text in red is the radeef of the sher and the ghazal
2. Qafiya = the word just before the radeef. Each couplet or sher uses a different rhyming Qaafiya
darad minnat-kash-e davaa nah hua
maiN nah achha huaa, bura nah hua
The text in black highlight is the qafiya of the sher and the ghazal
3. Matla = The first Couplet of the Ghazal which uses a qaafiya in both the misra
4. All the shers of the ghazal (except Matlaa) can only have the Qafiya in the second line of each sher.
jamaa karte ho kyuN raqiboN ko (no qaafiya)
ek tamaashaa hua gilaa na hua
ham kahaaN qismat aazmaane jaayeiN (no Qaafiya)
tu hi jub Khanjar-aazmaa na hua
See the above example. The qafiya appears only in the second line of each sher.
Each Qafiya is a rhyme that matches the original qafiya in the matla of the Ghazal (davaa, buraa, gilaa,
aazmaa)
5. Maqta = The last sher of the Ghazal, which contains the name of the poet
kuchh to paRhye keh log kahte haiN
aaj Ghalib Ghazal-saraa na hua
dosto neeche kuch aksar istemaal meiN aane wale lafz jinme “z” ya “j” ka istemaal hota hai aur jinhe hum log aksar galat likhte haiN likh raha hooN…..
